Lia McInerney, BA, MA
Care Coordinator
She/Her

Reaching out for the support you need should never be an arduous, difficult, or (re)traumatizing process, but I know that sometimes it is. As Care Coordinator, I strive to make the act of asking for help as warm, humanizing, and accommodating as possible. I believe access to care is a human right, and I appreciate that the logistics of things like scheduling appointments, navigating insurance, and finding a good clinical fit can feel overwhelming or even insurmountable. I see my role as an opportunity to guide you through these processes that so often present themselves as obstacles, and allow you space to be present in therapy without the burden of such logistical weights.

Education: I received a Master of Arts in English Literature along with a Master of Arts Certification in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019. I completed my undergraduate degree in Women, Gender, & Sexuality Studies from Goucher College in 2017. My scholarly focus is on examining gender and sexuality in terms of representation, affect, and embodiment in popular culture with a particular attunement to transgender theories, histories, and modes of meaning-making.

Background: I believe in the importance of critically minded and culturally competent care as an ethos and have worked to foreground this belief throughout my career. I have worked in public libraries, museums, as a professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies, and as a training facilitator on model policies for gender and the classroom for K-12 schools. I am passionate about intersectional feminisms, trauma-informed care, meeting the healthcare needs of the broader LGBTQIA+ community in general, and the healthcare needs of other transgender women and transmisogyny-affected people in particular.

Beyond Work: I am an avid book and music collector and love to spend my free time learning about new artists and exploring new listening and reading material! Most days you can find me plopped down in a chair with headphones on, a queer poetry zine in my hands, and my beloved cat in my lap. If I’m not there, I’m probably watching retro anime with my partner, embroidering, or out on a hike!
